BEGIN:VCALENDAR PRODID:NingEventWidget-v1 VERSION:2.0 METHOD:PUBLISH BEGIN:VEVENT UID:2286761:Event:45297 DTSTAMP:20120527T072952Z SUMMARY:16th Annual Noh Training Project DESCRIPTION:The Noh Training Project will hold its 16th Annual Summer Intensive Noh workshop from July 19-August 7 in Bloomsburg, P in assoc iation with the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble and Bloomsburg University. \n\nNTP is a performance-based training workshop in the dance, chant, music and performance background of Japanese classical Noh drama. It o ffers the most intensive and extensive Noh training available outside Japan.\n\nOne of the oldest continually performed theatre forms in the world, noh combines dance, chant, music, and mask in a powerful and s tately performance experience requiring intense inner concentration an d physical discipline. Actors, directors, dancers, musicians, and acad emics interested in a non-Western performance experience are encourage d to apply.\n\nThis year the workshop will be lead for the entire thre e weeks by Kinue Oshima, the sole professional female performer in the Kita school of noh. Ms. Oshima recently completed a tour of Europe as the lead in the new English noh play Pagoda with members of Theatre N ohgaku, many of whom are past participants in NTP. Ms Oshima has previ ously taught for one week each in the 2006 and 2009 NTP workshops. Mit suo Kama will again lead the hayashi music instruction for the worksho p. NTP is directed by Richard Emmert and the producing director is Eli zabeth Dowd. Mr. Emmert will be on sabbatical for this year’s worksh op. Instructors assisting Ms Oshima and Mr. Kama will be Ms. Dowd, Joh n Oglevee, Jubilith Moore and James Ferner.\n\nAPPLICATION PROCEDURE:\ nApplicants must send a resume and written narrative describing why th ey wish to study Noh, previous artistic influences, and what the appli cant hopes to gain from this experience. Free parking is available outside the apartments for th ose with cars. Board is not included.\n\nLOCATION:\nBloomsburg, PA is located about 3 hours from NYC (by car) west on I-80, exit 236. Neares t airports are Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport, Harrisburg International Airport, Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton Airport, or Lycoming Airport. Air port pick-up may be arranged for a small fee. Bloomsburg is a small to wn offering little distraction from the rigors of training. It is surr ounded by rural farmland and many lovely State Parks.
