Study West African Dance and Drumming in
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, This Summer!

Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project & DAFRA Drum Ensemble
In association with Napam Beogo/Center for Artisans and Visual Arts present:
Two weeks of exciting dance and drum workshops with established West African dance and drum teachers ranging from the griot tradition to established contemporary artists. In addition to the daily program of dance classes and drumming classes there will be a workshop in batik making. We will tour outside of Ouagadougou with three excursions to see wild elephants, baboons and many animals at the Nazinga National Reserve near the Ghana border, the leathermaking village of Kaya, and the artistic granite village of Lango.
DANCE: Traditional Manding, Gourmanche, Kassena, Warba, Contemporary African Dance and Improvisation. Instructors: Lacina Coulibaly, Ousseni Sako, Serge Somé, Adjaratou Ouédraogo and Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project
DRUM: Djembe, Dun Dun, Balafon.
Instructors: Amadou Kienou, Mamadou (Madeni) Kienou, Omar Kienou & Dembelé Flatié
Fee: $2,600
The fee covers all workshops, lodging, three delicious homemade meals per day, local travel with group, and excursions outside of the city. Airfare to and from Burkina Faso is not covered.
This program will be co-directed by Olivier Tarpaga, Esther Baker- Tarpaga, and Wilfried Souly of Baker & Tarpaga Dance Project and DAFRA Drum Ensemble.
