In this course, we will explore a variety of pop-up structures, beginning with basic accordion books and simple non-adhesive cut-and-fold pop-ups, and progressing through a series of more complex glued constructions. We will also make a carousel book and a tunnel book, two traditional sculptural formats. The workshop will cover bookbinding tools and their use. Students will learn basic binding and production skills, such as proper folding techniques and cover preparation. Slide shows of historical and artist-made books will provide inspiration. Open to beginners and more advanced students alike, this is an ideal session for book artists, teachers, graphic designers, and anyone who likes to play with paper.
