Are there any other "green" Artists out there??

My name is Mark Langan and I work with recycled materials for my artistic sculpture...namely recycled corrugated boxes.  For a discussion forum I was hoping that I might get some wonderful feedback from other Artists who choose to do the same and would also be willing to show some examples of their work?  Referenced photo(s) two of my creations using this unlikely medium.  I am also curious to know in doing so, perhaps you would consider answering some of the following questions in reply...

What materials do you utilize and "upcycle" into your art?
Do you refer to yourself as simply an Artist or as the "green" Artist?
Do you work using these methods specifically because it's eco-friendly?
How long have you been doing so, what strides have you made and goals?
Do you find the public thinks it is of "lesser quality" because it is reused?

I look forward to reading and seeing what comes up against this forum. Thanks for those willing to contribute!

Hi Sam.  So good of you to post on this blog.  Congrats on the upcoming show in Pittsburgh and would absolutely appeciate being able to see your art presented...make sure to post some pics for us all here to see.  Something is always better then nothing as I say.  My best to you!

Hi mark

I'm brand new to this site, but I was just directed to your post... and I LOVE your work. It's amazing! I work with recycled magazines: www.colorstorydesigns.com

I have some friends that work with recycled cardboard as well, have you heard of them: graypants

http://www.graypants.com/

They are really growing in popularity here locally, so i just thought i would point them out to you!

And to answer  your questions:

What materials do you utilize and "upcycle" into your art?

I use recycled magazines- and I get them from my local library so they are saved from the landfill.

Do you refer to yourself as simply an Artist or as the "green" Artist?

I like to call myself an eco-friendly artist, but "green" works too.

Do you work using these methods specifically because it's eco-friendly?

Yes, i love the idea that i'm saving these used magazines from filling up landfills. That is actually how my company got started- i wanted to find a "cheap" material and reuse to create something beautiful. It turns out that the magazines are free, but what i love creating with them can take days, so trying to make a profit isn't so easy... but i love doing it!

How long have you been doing so, what strides have you made and goals?

I began colorstory designs almost 2 years ago, and I'm trying to make it a full time job. For now though, i still work full time during the day, and sell online and travel to local art shows when i can.

Do you find the public thinks it is of "lesser quality" because it is reused?

I live in Seattle, and i find that having art that is reused is actually more popular than not, but I think that is because of the culture here.

Thanks so much

Amy

Hi Amy,

Awesome artwork you are creating with magazines as I just left your Etsy site.  Appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post.  Keep in touch please.
