Be our guide for a day! Take us on a cultural tour of where you live

What makes the place you live in unique? This discussion is intended as an opportunity for you to take us into your world. If all Culturalistas came to visit you in your village/town/city for a day in search of cultural experiences, where would you take us? Be as detailed as you'd like- and add photos too if you can! Looking forward to us all learning about each other's places!

My Village is a city called Malibu- California

I would take you for a run at Zuma Beach (only 3 miles) - If early you would watch the colors of the Sunrise from the point at 6:00am!

After a good run we would go  for a healthy breakfast at coogies or perhaps Vitamin barn by 11 for a Malibu Mud and some Efa, wheatgrass and vitamin shots- A veggie juice with Kale spinach beets and carrots green aple would be a good suply of iron for me-

We would then go shopping for chic casual funky clothing- planet blue for fun fragrances  products and cute gifts from Malibu colony- Check out the cool walls at Canvas and say hi to Jac and Arlington owner and collectors and lovers of art-  Try out some shoes -  after a quick snack at chocbox cafe- off to Wisman Museum at Pepperdine for amazing art- Now by this time its time for lunch- Taverna Tony's always delicious and amazing service makes me feel like I am in Santorini! afer a few mezza's and healthy chicken souvlaki- time for a walk to the Malibu Lagoon for some nature sightseeing-  or we can go catch a few waves at my favourite surfing spot with long breaks at broad beach- a quick ride up the coast to Leo Carillo for the most gorgeous beaches and wildlife watching Kite surfers- Sunset is magnificent here! Back down PCH for a quick Crepe and Coffee not to mention chocolates or 15 flavours of hot chocolate bar fix then  Kitson/ Maxfield for the latest avantgarde fashion! By this time we are tired so a quick drink and relax at Nobu (forgot our cars are immaculately washed while shopping)-  What a fullfilling day! Ciao

sounds really wonderful! I miss PCH and the site of Pepperdine!
Im from Nigeria and naturally Nigeria is known for her rich culturral heritages. I would take all Culturalistas who cares to a place called Osun Osogbo Shrine in Osogbo,Osun State,Nigeria Osun shrine is believed capable of allowing individuals looking for child/children get one. The journey is a three hours drive from Lagos(the old capital of Nigeria, with the best airport and seaport in the country).

From there we will move on to Ile-Ife, some 30minutes drive away from Osogbo. Ile ife is the craddle of the Yorubas of Nigeria. For the purpose of clarity and adequate information, the popular Icon of Literature and theatre called Wole Soyinka is a Yoruba man. So Yorubas of Nigeria are believed to have settled first in Ile Ife. The Kings palace there is a breath taking cultural garage to visit. In there all visitors will see many ceramic, Iron, Bronze and metal arts works dated years back. The popular Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife is also five minutes away from the city centre. There are two major museums in there to visit too.

The three other places to visit are Benin in Edo State (the old Benin Kingdom), Ikogosi water fall(where hot and cold water co-exisit for more than five hundred years) and fianally, Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River State.

Sorry, I almost forgot to tell you all that un-countables of Nigerian dishes and delicasy are available with good varieties of very cheap drinks both alchoholic and non-alchoholic.
Babatunde, what are some of those dishes? I don't think I've ever eaten Nigerian food. Are there dishes that are particular to Osogbo?

Sorry Nico, I only have access to my page now after a long time. Promise to be up and doing now.

To your question. No, all Yorubas(Osogbo Poeple inclusive) have common delicacy. Pounded yam and Egunsi soup or Vegetable soup with dried fish will not be a bad one at all. With mashed beans with palm oil and fried plantain/ vegetable will make your day.

Amala and Egunsi soup with Panla/Bokoto will make you feel like a king/queen too.

Kalamazoo, MI is a surprising town. A short list of our cultural resources include: 2 dance companies, 7 theatres for live plays and 1 theatre for musical entertainment and comedy, a very solid symphony orchestra, a civic arts council that sponsors 1st Friday art hops that typically include 15-25 sites with artwork, a cultural headquarters called the Epic Center that serves as an administrative center for cultural groups but also as a venue for theatre, dance, music, and visual art. We have a complete building called the Park Trades Center that serves as the location for dozens of artists' studios as well as a book arts center, a glass center, and a gallery as well as the location of a high quality woodworking business. Behind the Park Trades Center is a casting foundry and sculptors' studios. There are regularly scheduled cultural events at Kalamazoo College, Western Michigan University, and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. There are four Foundations in Kalamazoo that support the arts financially. During the summer months, there are Festivals nearly every weekend including a Blues Festival, Caribbean Fest, International Fest, and various ethnic festivals such as Greek and Irish. The Kalamazoo International Animation Festival has grown and grown over the years and attracts animators from all over the United States. Each week, the local newspaper runs two full pages of events in Kalamazoo for the upcoming weekend. Instead of scheduling one day to visit our town, how about staying here a week? We'll find plenty to keep you busy!
sounds like we need all summer! I had no idea, wow! Sounds like a town in France with all the arts activities, the summer festivals and the strong support for the arts. Oh man, what a dream! It's definitely on my list now! Thanks so much for sharing, Charles!

Nico,
