Hi everyone,

I have been invited to attend the 2011 Florecne Biennalle. I have looked at some online forums and I am getting a lot of mixed reviews. Has anyone on this site done the Florence thing? It's a lot of money and some say it's a vanity show. I don't want to waste my time on vanity.
Thanks All

Hi Stacy !
I was there last December, and here is my uncensored opinion/experience :
If you want to sell at this exhibition, forget it.
Nobody sells here. The marketing in Italy is very poor (wonder what they do with all the money?) , and there are really not many customers. There are only a few people from galleries (all over the world). So why go there ?
I am happy I went, because I saw SO MUCH really wonderful art in one place, it took me days to walk around and see it all. After all, this is the largest exhibition of contemporary art in the world. I met lots of interesting artist from different countries, and I made some very good friends. Through some of these friends, I have got chances to exhibit in galleries that are really interesting. So - this exhibition is just what you make it into. If you go there, stay by your art and talk to people, don't waste your time sleeping in the hotel room. Florence is a beautiful town, take a day off, and see some interesting art - the town is brimful of it. It would be a good idea to go with a friend who also gets the invitation, so you can cooperate - one of you can stroll around, the other one take care of people interested in your art. It is not difficult to get invited (the organizer like money) just express your interest, send some pictures and ask if you can join, I think nobody is turned down. Thinking of this, it is surprising how much really good art you can see here.
I would not say it is a vanity show - if you know what to expect, and are prepared to get the best out of it, it is truly a nice experience.
If you have further questions, I'm happy to answer them.
All good things, Peter

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry I never answered your post, it actually just popped into my in box today!!!!!! Good feed, tough. One question? how did you pay for this show. I put some feelers out for sponsorship but got no responses.

Happy New Year by the way and thanks

Stacy

Hi Stacy,

my friend Tanja and I were happy to get a scolarship, that way we could afford to go. Hope you find the money somewhere, good luck !!

Peter

Hi Stacy,

Just checking it to see if you decided you would attend?

-John

I'm still on the fence, if I had someone to go with I'd say yes if the money magically appears! I think it would be just great to experience the other artists.

By the way, I will have a small collage in the Pen and Brush March show, the gallery is on 11th Street in the Village. Starts Mar.5th

Great to hear from you,

Stacy
