Hi there!

What an amazing and diverse community of artists!

My name is Kate E. Deeming I am a Glasgow (Scotland) based/Philly native/International Dancing Gypsy. My practice is based upon the belief that the majority of the world's (and my!) struggle stem from disconnection. SO I seek to re-connect be it a personal/community/global project in dance/film/writing/theatre/brownies! I have made work in the US, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Sri Lanka, India, England and in my (current) home Scotland! This has both been in conventional ways (theatres/classrooms/art galleries) and non-conventional (streets, office blocks, grocery stores).

I have a great passion for facilitating the fire of creativity with young people and often work with kids in challenged areas (including ghettos in Philadelphia and Glasgow as well as in the (former) war zone of Sri Lanka and in community schools in Orissa, India.

My current project is "Sunrise (Dances for Everyone)!" Which is a 72 day project where I am initiating a dance at Sunrise from 11 Jan 2011 - 21 March 2011. The dances are inspired by the hopes and wishes of other people and are presented in public areas. This is part three of my outdoor dance cycle - which began last March. Hi All,

I'm Gordana Curgus

I was born in Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia, where I lived until the civil war began in 1992. I ended up a refugee, luckily survived the mess, and moved to Bellingham, USA. Having seen the good and the bad sides of human nature makes me appreciate the simplicity of just being alive.Sometime I forget to be grateful to have this "second chance", or second life. If I'm cat I would have 7 more to go...

After twenty something years of my engineering profession I have decided to end it. I found that immersion in art, and playing with colors, provided that simplicity my heart desired in order to heal itself. Hopefully throughout this process I have become a better person; being an artist is a plus.

I see art as a universal language available to all regardless of culture, nationality, language, age or status in life, or how much "staff" one has. It is the tool that crosses cultures, breaks boundaries and grants access and connections that are not available through any other means. I hope that my paintings are accomplishing just that.

I would like to add this citing from Dalai Lama's "Little Book of Inner Peace"

"War is Massacre"

"It is very dangerous to ignore the suffering of any living Being. Even in wartime it is better to be aware of the suffering of others, even the suffering we inflict ourselves, even though this can make us uncomfortable. War is massacre. It is 100% negative. And the way war has now become automated makes it even worse. And when solders overlook another person's suffering in order to make some petty gain, than this is more dangerous still"

Hello to All-

I'm an architect by day and an artist at night. I started colorstory designs a few years ago (with my best friend), and we are a small company that makes art from recycled magazines. We use every piece of the magazines ( which we get donated to use from our local library- before they get put into the landfills) and we make everything from earrings, picture frames, shadowboxes, mirrors, wine charms. I live in the Seattle area right now and I'm so excited to see my company grow and expand.

Hello to Nico and John, and All, Thank you so much for inviting me to join this wonderful website. I have been browsing around the "space" and am so impressed by the talent and diversity and energy that I have found here. I think it is so important for artists to make connections to the larger creative world "out there", and anything that opens up possibilities in that direction performs a great service. As for myself, by way of introduction, I am a psychotherapist and art therapist as well as being a visual artist. As an Art Therapist I have worked in hospital settings for many years and recently retired from full time employment in that arena to develop my psychotherapy practice and to further persue my own art making. For several years now, and sporatically, I have been working on developing a website for my art.
