Handmade toys needed for art work at Chapter, Cardiff

We are excited to be working on an exhibition taking place this April, by the artist Helen Frik.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Difficult’ will run from 2 April - 9 May 2010 and will feature the installation 'Higher Up, where to', which will fill an entire room of the Gallery. The room will be darkened with a vague light emitting from a greatly enlarged bedside lamp and an array of 'toys' will be trying their hardest to reach the lamp, to soak up it's warmth and energy.

As you may know, we are in the process of collecting hand crafted toys and we really hope that you can contribute to the art work as we need to gather up to 200 toys! The toys can be made out of any material as long as it is hand crafted, for example fabric, knit, woven, wire, wood etc. The odder the better, just let your imagination go wild! Current entries include knitted critters, colourful fabric monsters, wooden animals and wire dolls.

The names of all makers will be listed in the Gallery during the exhibition and you will receive an A4 signed Giclée print, 'The Brave, 2009' edition of 200 to thank you for your contribution in exchange for your toys.  The final deadline for submissions is the last week of March, however due to the amount we need to collect as soon as you are able to send us your toys, it would be very much appreciated.

When your toy/toys are made, please let us know and we can arrange to collect them if you live local, or for them to be dropped off at Chapter Box Office. Please address all packaging to: Lauren Jury, Visual Arts Assistant, Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Canton, Cardiff CF5 1QE.

If you would like any further information please do get in contact, by phoning 029 2132 8082 or email visual.arts@chapter.org

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing your submissions!

I am unsure if you still have time and first, I would like to commend you on your efforts. You may want to market your idea and needs on www.etsy.com
For example, the link here is a magnificent maker of doll clothes who offered a tremendous opportunity for one of a kind dresses and socks to her community at Christmas time a year ago which made a lot of little girls very happy. She sells her items all over the globe. http://sugarblocks.etsy.com
If you have not heard of it, it is a place where people sell handmade goods. There are many kind souls there who love art and may generously support your cause. If it is too late, think of them next time.
Thank you, yes I have contacted individual sellers on etsy, it's a great site. I've posted in on the forum to get those last new in.
