So, these days I'm really thinking about how art can be an ethical and political tool that can help people become aware of the realities we live in, collectively and dialogically. It seems that, given the craziness of the global economy, now is the right moment to really push for sustainable ways of living so as to stop abusing the planet and living beings.

My idea is this: a curated multi-media art exhibit focused on activism and awareness of global problems. It would be a combination of visual art media, performance, spoken word, and tactile pieces. It could be hosted by any public space, like a coffee shop, where people commonly gather. The show would be opened with lots of publicity, and the artists would be present to explain their work, and to lead a discussion of peoples' reactions to the art. Too often art viewing is a private, silent act, when really art gives us so much to talk about.

This doesn't even have to be done by 'professional' artists. It can just be an experiment with creativity and politics. What do you think? Are you an artist and an activist? If so, we should talk...

Sounds great, I've always wanted to do that as well, maybe we can have meetings with some environmental organizations to help support us and see some specific causes on thier agendas as well. Where are you based? I'm in the New York City area in Jersey City, NJ. Lets talk...
i've always thought that art and activism go hand in hand. let's talk!
this sounds wonderful. i wonder if we could learn from some of the events that happen around the big political meetings like Davos. eager to know more about your plans.
Greetings!
I personally welcome and also appreciate your thought and idea. Similar was My idea with respect to Puppet plays in Hotels for awareness generation and people's recation towards the art. During one of my puppet plays for kids at a reputed club in Hyderabad failed and I felt it was a great insult to my puppets than me as individual who is manipulating them when I was asked to stop in middle and play later as it was DJ, and VJs blast given more importance. But you can still give a thought

I'm an Indian origin Sri Lankan Tamil. I would like to share this with you. My experience traveling to Indian villages enlightened me in many aspects. They are poor, un-clean, lack of facilities. But I would say they are very rich in values, thinking and culture.

They are united because of their culture. Art playing a important role in their life. Every evening many cultural events eg-drama, dance, speech etc. in their own small way. At home women get togather and sing bhajan-songs. (spiritual songs mostly based on values) in the month of Dec, a month for (Kachcheri) music, drama and speech. Based on the most famous/loved Indian tale Ramayana. People's mind is fully occupied in this. It enriches the mind and sole. No money, no facility but the mind is full.

I'm pleased welcome to your idea which would change the mindset of pople and make this world into culture of understanding.

Thank you.
