Dear Culturalistas,

As part of the exciting set of upgrades coming to Create Culture that we unveiled in the last newsletter, we are going to be editing the profile questions. We are changing the wording of some of the questions, and adding new ones too. We hope you will take a minute to review what questions we are planning and to give us some feedback.

Why the changes?
We want to make it easier for you to find each other. By refining the questions, it will make it easier for you to search and find people based on location, interests, type of activity they are engaged with and roles that they play. Rather than just have the choices for "Artist" or "Arts Organization" for example, you will now be able to choose from "Musician", "Educator", "Producer", "Craft Artist" and more.  We have also split up questions that were too broad.

Before we make the changes to the profile questions, we would like to know your thoughts- perhaps we have omitted something in the lists of choices, perhaps there is a question that we should be asking or not asking. You will see that we are not planning wholesale changes to the questions, but we are confident that these changes will make your profile stronger and will make it easier for you to find the people you will want to get in touch with. Please add your comments!

What are the new questions?

- REPLACING "STATUS" QUESTION: My Role (Multiple Choice): Musician/Composer, Dancer/Choreographer, Theatre Artist, Visual Artist, Filmmaker, Literary Artist, Digital/Media Artist, Craft Artist, Designer, Educator, Curator, Producer, Arts Collective, Arts Funder, Arts Worker.

- REPLACING "ARTISTIC BACKGROUND" QUESTION: About Me And My Work (Open Field)

- NEW QUESTION: My Specialties (Open Field: e.g. "Flamenco", "Puppets", "3D Animation", "Theater of The Oppressed", "Oil Paintings").

- REPLACING  "ARTISTIC EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD ON MY TRAVELS / WHERE I WOULD LIKE TO TRAVEL TO EXPERIENCE NEW ARTS AND CULTURES" QUESTION:
A. Artistic Experiences I Have Had On My Travels (Open Field: e.g. "participated in a Capoeira festival in Brazil", "visited the museums of Europe", "Produced a Jazz tour across Asia")
B. Places I Would Like To Visit  (Open Field: e.g. London, Malaysia, Native villages in the Amazon, Metropolitan Museum of Art)

- REPLACING "MY DREAM COLLABORATION" QUESTION: Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With (Open Field: e.g. "I would like to work on a project with ceramic artists", "I would like to learn more about Indian dance")

I think this is a great idea and will make it easier for artists to respond to.
Good changes. But I found the original format easy too.
thanks to you both, Veronica and Neha!
Great! The questions are easier to answer now. Thank you.
Nico,

All good stuff. I took some time to revamp my profile. I like all that you do here but if I can think of anything as in a suggestion I will let you know. Take care!

Mark
Thanks Cristina and Mark, glad you like them!
I like these questions. They allowed me to share more of what I value and, if people are honest, what others value. My challenge with the social network is that I have what a dear friend of mine calls "a face to face fetish." I like being around most people in person. Research has indicated that up to 80% of communication is nonverbal in the form of body language and facial expressions. That part doesn't come across in blogs and twitters. Your questions may allow us to come a little closer in spite of the geographic distances between us.

Very nicely done.
Thanks, Doug! And with the introduction of Groups very soon, we hope to be able to create opportunities for face to face interactions. Let me know if you might be interested in setting one up yourself- and I will be glad to discuss with you.
I am actually leading regular artist inquiries in the Bellingham area and coordinate other inquiries at a distance via the internet. If you have time check out our project; theflowproject.org . There is a more in depth description of what we are about. If there are artists in this area that would like to form a group I do have an interest but must also be aware of time constraints. Let's see what unfolds. It's all a great adventure anyway.
