hey Cindy, let me know how this goes, i don't think i have very much to offer on the subject, but perhaps i will later in the year. Kenya had "post election violence" two years ago. I've just released a collection of poetry which touches on life after the same, and will hopefully devise some programs around the work here in Kenya.

Thanks very much for this information Ngwatilo. Right now I am gathering names of projects and organizations and then hope to see if anyone is doing any research or program evaluation around them (formal and informal evaluation). I will definitely keep you posted.

Hi CIndy. I have done workshops for children and adults... and training for professional groups and families. I am not an art therapist but a social worker. I use simple art projects that focus on a particular part of social and personal difficulties. I have worked with kids in the US, Asia and Australia in instances where there has been a conflict or crisis.. such as an emergency airlift.. school shooting, etc... I set up a peer mediation program for kids and trained them to resolve crisis. I have done some program evaluation... have soft data from participants.... I have a minimalistic web site..http://anniehagert/com.... that talks of some of the things I do and my resume is a part of that. I also have been on the mental health team and disaster response for the Red Cross. Tell me what you are doing! I am so glad to be a part of create culture.. such good people

Hi Cindy -
I have been doing work in conflict and post-conflict settings for a few years now. Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but an organization called the Center for Mind-Body Medicine (www.cmbm.org) that I've been involved with does a lot of training in "alternative" approaches to dealing with trauma. Some of the techniques they use are drawings - and they have published journal articles on their work (check the website). They have trained hundreds of local organizations already working on the ground - such as staff from the Israeli Center for Psychotrauma (they do fantastic work with kids), as well as Palestinian organizations operating within Gaza (i.e., Gaza Community Mental Health Programme), and have done work training teachers in villages throughout Kosovo.

this is very helpful information! I'm actually going to a village outside of Pristina in Kosovo next month to do some artwork and teaching with a Kosovo artist/teacher and a group of children and youth. Thank you for your input. I'll be posting to this site once I've got a good collection of things to share.

Am actually new in here,, but i think I understand what you are talking about but right now, I am not working on such themes for now but could be later, as I am working on my show here in Nigeria, and at the same time got another project to work on in the USA, this is speaking about what WE all need among ourselves in the world. HI Cindy, I'm also working on a similar project. The children art workshop on Peace and Conflict Management: Art Strategy for Action was concluded on the 23rd March, 2010. The second phase of the project : heART4LIFE 2010 will be children art exhibition festival which will be the post- workshop project in October 23rd, 2010. This exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, drama, dance, music, lively discussion and interactive session. Hence, I would like to link up with your inter agency network for education in emergencies. Our group is Alternative Arts Friendly Initiative Network, Ibadan, Nigeria, which is an initiative towards using the arts to facilitate teaching and learning process for young people.
