Ironically I am in the process of creating my studio. This is one of the progression pics from some time ago and it is much futher ahead than what you see. I applied for some grant opportunities in Ohio but nothing was awarded this year. I was told my art geared more toward the commercial side of things. Oh well...rather than remain stagnant I opted to complete the lower level of my home (basement) into a very functional studio. I did all the electrical and have ample outlets in each and every room now as well as adequette lighting to work.
One half of the lower level will be devoted to display of art, awards, etc. Also a media center on one end whereas my children can entertain themselves while i am on the other half working. I also ran plumbing as we had a pre-plumb during construction an there is now a full bath on this level.
lot's of fun and a big saving doing myself especially on the "starving Artist" budget. I just turned 50 in June and this being the third such large renovation I've done and really showing the effects of my age. Up and down the ladder numerous times while screwing board and taping and coating with joint compound. I've taken the slow approach though and am using all quality techniques such as mesh tape, Durabond 90 joint compound, coarse thread screws and metal reinforced corner tape. Looking great and I'll have to take some pics and post soon.
