What are the necessary components of a really good collaboration?

Ok, so here is my "question of the week" for you all: Seeing how so many of you collaborate with other artists on various projects, what would you say are the necessary components of a really good artistic collaboration? (and I share an image of what happens when a collaboration goes bad...have you ever looked like that?)

Shared responsibilities! Very nice Alan!
I think you listed all the ingredient.
This a really a question that make you dosome sel analyze.
I guess communication is a key point to let you understand the other person. And feel if all the criterias are there for a good collaboration.
But looking at the picture. I think fighting can be a way to collaborate, different ideas don't matter if after that you can still work together, it is healthy. Means that you go above it and the bond get even stronger. Maybe it means that we realle trust one another. We can have different views on the collaboration, but it doesn't hurt our feelings. Like sisters and brothers, like man and wife. At the end it is not toward the person, it is just another strong way to understand each other better.
wise words, Alan!
Conjoin.
If each party want's to be noticed then maybe the ego thing might be a hindrance/ minefield. Start small, tiny in fact. Its a contract unfortunately so how do you settle as many creative parts to ownership. Compatibility and a sincere objective including fun and no expectations could yield masterful results from a kindergarten or a government. I will work if you have the conviction for progress and inspiration in my house of creativity...no tire kickers need apply, and its never a free ride.
I watch this sometimes, sorry if its old news to you or distracting, many great inspirational examples of collaboration. If only time allowed.

Thanks Wayne, I watch Ted videos once in a while, I know they have posted some here.

Ownership is a huge question... who does the final product belong to?
This whole question reminded me of how I launched into making chandeliers...this attached picture is a collaboration from 1993. Wayne

All I could say was wow- here is Wayne's image

I think when people come together with a diverse set of skills. Equality of arts skills does not have to mean the same set of skills.

I also think the ability to be flexible and open. The beauty of collaboration is that you can share the pressures, problem solve in a wider scope to when working along.

Collaboration can mean working on project with fellow artists but it can also mean having many groups involved in the project to make it happen. The image below is a project where there was a local council, a not for profit organisation, a buidling company and a special needs school working together to make the first park for children of all abilites in Australia created. I was lucky enough to work with the special needs school and local council in creating a mosaic feature wall with the children about transformation.
