Escondido Municipal Gallery Fund raiser
“How to Manifest and Grow Your Ideas” Workshop proposed by Cathy Carey
Possible Time Line
June 18
first workshop date 11am - 3pm
July 30
Finished date - 11am - 1pm or 2?
Purpose; To raise some much needed funds for the EAP and to foster creative relationships within our art community. Teach each other new ways to generate and grow creative ideas
Cost
Buy in to the group is $50 directly donated to EAP. Please give feedback if the buy in is prohibitive. Then as pieces sell, that amount will be donated as well.
Idea
My idea is to do an artist community building project where we can share ideas and further each persons art as well as contribute to the EAP. I think the draw for artists is a fun project and getting to work with other artists. I am thinking of this as a workshop for more established artists in their work, artists who know what to do, get an idea and run with it. There could be another event for artists who are learning and developing and want more “how to” info. One of the things that people have said to me in my years of teaching is they most need inspiration and ideas, after they learn how to do stuff, they hit a brick wall, and can’t get going on a project because they don’t know what to do, or how to get started. So I was seeing this as an answer to those artists. Most places offer beginner classes, but few intermediate and no advanced. At the inter and adv level I think it is the desire for ideas and how to come up with ideas for work that will be meaningful.
Who knows where it may lead? We are looking into having a show at EAP of finished pieces.
Description Please give feedback how do you feel if these workshops are videotaped
A two day workshop creation of project discussion presentation of finished pieces
A group of 10 artists who will create a project together to sell at the EAP and then possibly on Ebay.
Project
Day 1 - A four hour workshop where we create a project started together based on picking from a bag a descriptive word below:
Courage Commitment Inner Authority Divine Guidance
Freedom Abundance Cooperation
Awareness Healing Power
Day 2 - follow up 2/3 hour discussion day on the finished pieces. Please give feedback on your time availability. Do both days need to be a weekend?
Schedule for Day one:
Greeting and choosing time 30 min
Once everyone has chosen their word, we’ll discuss each word and ideas of how to create something using it. Images, materials, anything that comes up. Each artist can take notes and use the ideas as they see fit. We can also discuss if the projects should be connected in some way or independent.
Time - 1 hour
I will lead an idea creation process, hand out paper folded into 10 squares, then artists will have time to quickly plan and brainstorm sketches notes, ideas of the word each person chose. Time - 1 hour
Finally we’ll discuss together the ideas on every ones sheets. The point here is to really stir up ideas and things that you normally wouldn’t try or think about by sharing and problem solving with 9 other artists. The project is still each persons own to develop as they see fit.
Time - 1 1/2 hours
Size of each project - needs to fit into Priority Mail® Medium Flat Rate Box 13-5/8” x 11-7/8” x 3-3/8” or 11” x 8-1/2” x 5-1/2”
ships for $10.95 - buyer pays shipping
Restrictions - you can use any materials as long as it fits in the above box and is safe to ship, following postal regulations etc. Subject matter of finished piece should conform to same restrictions as EAP shows
Materials needed for workshop: Notebook and pen for note taking
Comment by Cathy Carey on April 5, 2011 at 5:09pm It was decided at the meeting today, based on response from the group to Donna Meyer over the last month, that the new name of the group is Escondido Art Talk. Lots of interesting things are going on, We are trying to put together a fundraiser for the gallery as a workshop. Here are details. Comments?
