THE BODY-IMAGINATION-DRIED BANANA LEAF 2005

Concept

Local culture shows life, which depends on nature. Simple learning and dependence on nature – the true community culture – has been looked upon as outmoded, compared to western standards of development which focuses on industrial development. Following the west is viewed as part of destruction of community culture.

Things originate through a number of fixed structures from one era to another. Likewise agreements or disagreements show certain symbols. A moment might take a different length of time: short or long,. However, it still goes onward to continuous change. Old and new rhetoric rises like mushrooms, which grow seasonally. What is attached to structures is related to other structures in the system, which also keeps changing to maintain its own balance in a framed confinement. Spilt lines seem hard to define and to point out what lies in front because each structure slides, overlaps, mixes and eventually the appearance is fuzzy. I think and imagine and then create artistic style. Creation of art constructs tangibles similar to double exposure and mankind’s way of life. It is to search relationships as inspired by community knowledge. The state of cultural stillness of using a ‘unit’ of knowledge (using banana leaf) responds to its usage in the community, and dynamic movement in the changing phenomena in the role of society.

This project aims to find the relationship between local knowledge and mainstream (industrial) development.
