BOUFFON!

Dedicated to charting and discussing the vast realm of the Bouffon. The Bouffon being an outsider of society who sees with a takers eye and is able to provide sharp social satire truths that know no boundaries. With Bouffons, everyone is complicit.

About Me And My Work
Interested in theatre performance and movement. I am currently in the 3rd year of the Master's program at Dell'Arte School of Physical Theatre. I want to create my own theatre works with a group of passionate individuals. I am interested in Commedia, Clown, Bouffon, Mask work, acrobatics and mixed media.

MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theatre, Dell'Arte School of Physical Theatre, Blue Lake, CA, 2010
MS in Education, Mercy College, NYC, 2006
Co-Founder of Collective Opera Company, New York, NY, 2005
Summer Performance Institute, Shakespeare and Company, 2003
Month-long Shakespeare Intensive, Shakespeare and Company, 2003
BFA Theatre Performance, Chapman University, Orange County, CA, 2001
Places I Would Like To Visit
I recently came back from studying mask, shadow puppetry and dance in Bali. I was moved and inspired by the culture's spiritual connection to their arts. The art of mask, puppetry, music and dance are celebrated almost daily in religious ceremonies, festivities and home life. In Bali, I also met and worked with an incredible mask-maker, teacher and performer from Mexico. This amazing woman's name is Alicia Martinez Alvarez and she has a theatre company in Mexico that I intend on studying with.

As far as upcoming travels go:
Moving back to NYC in the summer and will create new works and propose them to different venues and festivals...and look for jobs that pay rent. I would like to participate and tour in Canadian Fringe Festivals as well as the Fringe Festival in New York, then in a couple years take the work to the European circuit. I would like to join Clowns Without Borders and take expeditions to Mexico, Africa, and Asia.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
Ah, so many to choose, but I will begin with this: A character clown play with 3 actors who's journey in this realm leads to absurd, yet poetic and poignant situations and circumstances that can make an audience laugh, weep and recognize themselves in. The play is mostly non-verbal, save for sound effects and music (preferably live) and the actors have to focus on how the body, the play of rhythm dynamics and silence communicates the action on stage. The play is an exploration of themes. This is how I can currently articulate this.

I also wish to collaborate on an adaptation or original piece using the realms of Commedia or Bouffon. More on this piece later

I would like to develop a mask workshop curriculum with one other person that involves the process of MASK-MAKING through the use of clay, papier mache, wood, and found objects. And of MASK PLAY that centers on creating a character based on finding the body of the mask through explorations with voice, movement, rhythm, focus, shape and costume.
The end of the workshop will culminate into a final presentation or performance with all involved participants.
My Creative Influences & Favorite Artists
Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre,

Those who play with abandon.
Those who stand in themselves despite opposition.
Those who rise against oppression.
Those that do work to benefit the voice of a community that needs to be heard.
Those that understand how to bring laughter, joy, play and catharsis.

Adriana, check out the Jerome foundation, they have travel grants- though the cycle has just passed, you may want to get in touch and see about the next one.

You will see that there are several artists from Indonesia here, including from Bali. Cannot wait to see some of you images, especially the masks!
