About Me And My Work
my work focuses around the following:
1. the creation of original theater works adapted from non dramatic texts. As part of my body of work, I have so far created three original works -The Song of Arete, based on Greek poetry, One night the rain, based on a short story by G. G. Marquez, and The Stranger an adaptation of Camus' novel, which received a Lab 101 Grant from La Guardia Perf. Art Center in March 2010. In working with literary texts I am interested in exploring new expressive means and finding new forms that are poetic and minimalist.

2. the creation of an expressive platform for artists of the Mediterranean and Mediterranean diaspora. My motivation has been to address what I see as a gap in the representation of Mediterranean cultures in North America (often limited to the folklore or to stereotypes) and a limitation in opportunities for Mediterranean artists in the city. To that end I produced in 2011 the first edition of Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean Performing Arts, my most ambitious producing project so far, which presented performing artists from the Mediterranean and North America.

3. The promotion of US-Med intercultural exchange through the translation of texts (theatre, criticism), and the staging of productions. This ambition has grown out of my work at Between the Seas festival from a desire to support the festival's mission with a larger body of work, intellectual as well as artistic. I have recently started by translating contemporary Greek drama into English (One out of Ten by L. Vasiliou), and engaging in a critical discourse on Mediterranean performance by writing, translating and publishing articles. My ambition is to engage more translators and writers in this process and bring contemporary Mediterranean plays in New York as well as contemporary American plays in the Mediterranean.
