About Me And My Work
A Boston-based artist using photographic imagery and materials as my primary media, my work explores the extension of fable to discover contemporary cultural conditions. I am specifically considering the way beliefs manifest in the lifeworld.

Much of my work explores the ideas of "street theology." What objects and images trigger thought, sentiment and connectedness and how do we come to understand myth and meaning in both a personal and a larger cultural and anthropological context? What does our "scape" (urban, suburban, rural, human and natural / land) say about the things we believe? What does my "scape" say about the things I believe? What is "yours," what is "mine," and what is "ours"?
Places I Would Like To Visit
I make photographs everywhere I go. Sometimes they seem nostalgic, sometimes romantic, sometimes confused, sometimes clear. I have come to believe that the images I create are a combination of my own state of mind melding with the atmosphere / environment as I meet it. So its funny, I could never hope to understand the essence of a place because I think such statements just do not make sense to me. I am more inclined to simply take it as I greet it and as it greets me... seems like a more endless and honest range of possibility.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
Work with people outside of United States to bring a more nuanced awareness of American culture to other places and a more nuanced awareness of other places to Americans. I specifically like to work on projects that are not about broad cultural identity but rather about personal life experiences--especially experiences that may not be shared when they happen but may be a common link between people who may never have met.
My Creative Influences & Favorite Artists
I love the syncopation of street life whether urban, suburban, or rural. The choreography of imagery, architecture, land / building / machine scapes and the people who inhabit them intrigue me to no end. Give me a place by the side of the road to sit in wonder and I will be happy. You inspire me. As does the adventure of meeting people for the first time never knowing whether it will be the last time or a lifelong friendship... The good nature of people is something that I find hopeful and the ill will of a small subset of culture is also interesting in its origins and evolution.
My Artistic Affiliations
I teach at several schools and I volunteer at several arts organizations in my region.

Welcome to the Arts and Peacebuilding group Andrew! I really like the philosophy you share on your page here. The presence of fables and myths in our everyday lives and their influences...  I just came from a national conference where an educator from Hungary presented education work with Roma children and youth. Fables, myths and personal narratives were integral to the work. Wonderful reminder. We are a constantly growing group open to feedback, suggestions, etc. We look forward to learning more about your work.

best

Cindy
