Art Installations on the Streets of Calcutta (Kolkata), India

Durga Puja (the annual homecoming of the goddess Durga as she visits her parents’ home on earth) is a very special time in the city of Calcutta (now Kolkata). Apart from the usual festivities that are prevalent throughout, it is also a great time to see some amazing art installations in the form of “pandals” (pavilions) created to house the goddess.According to the local authorities, there are over 3,000 such “pandals” all over the city and while it is physically impossible to see all of them…See More

Life's a Beach in Senegal

I went to Senegal to discover music. And I found Yoro – amazing heartfelt music written in the local Wolof language. What I also found is the tiny fishing village of Yoff.Over the course of a few days, I observed the community from sunrise to dusk and the inseparable bond that they shared with the ocean. Early morning started with fishermen heading out to the sea and those that stayed behind for the day kept themselves busy with impromptu soccer games on the…See More

Days Spent on a Fishing Boat in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

Ha Long Bay is blessed with a stunning landscape. Limestone karsts jut out from the water without any rhyme or reason and the best way to explore is to do it the way the locals live their daily lives, i.e., live on a fishing boat. Our boat was on the rustic side and came with a crew of two. It was equipped with a very tiny…See More
