struggle for sound

I've been despicably quiet. With the results of the general election here, the country gently drifted from a state of general apathy but acceptance towards cultural activity, into a risk-aversive mindset. This (more than any cut) has made my working here difficult; places that would normally have relished totally improvised music are more constrained and choosing safer options. But around the world there seems to be signs of resurgence, a battle so to speak, against mediocrity and safety. I guessed you might have a connection with Zambia as I noticed your name. I am based here in Zambia myself working with visual artists. I find your work very interesting.

Fortuitous analogues - oral traditions across cultures

After my sporadic status update[!] I was asked about what I was doing, and this is what I said. At the moment, it's all a bit "untidy", so to speak. But let me go through what's still in my head.I'm aiming to write a "play in music" - where specific groupings of instruments in a sextet taking on characters, but using the language of the performers [who are all improvising musicians]. Places I Would Like To Visit
I am lucky to have had many fulfilling experiences working in music - recently [Sept. 2009] I was in Macedonia, where I connected with amazing artists and people who were willing to experience arts and culture in its widest sense.

I'd like to go to places where I can feel as free and open as an artist as I did there.
