About Me And My Work
As Professor, creative design /craft/ product development/ community development expert:
Following an interdisciplinary pedagogical approach I teach creativity through arts, crafts and design, at various levels - graduate, undergraduate, professional, handicraft producers and at grassroots to self-help community groups - both as practice and in theory.
As arts-cultural promotion and marketing expert, and artist/designer: I design and implement art and culture based programs creating strategic plans, communication and marketing/promotional strategies. I specialize in developing projects, training modules and educational events that indoctrinate behavioral change, facilitate capacity building and skill enhancement and foster sustainable livelihood solutions through local arts and crafts, new product development, visual communication and representation, creative thinking and critical analysis. I have conducted many capacity building trainings with young designers, craftspeople, weavers, small entrepreneurs and exporters. I also conduct need based surveys and studies; perform background research; make craft-based project/product development recommendations; write project proposals/reports; monitor and evaluate art/craft based projects. I curate exhibitions and organize events like seminars, film shows, lecture series, international exchange programs etc.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
An NGO that supports artists, designers and craftspeople and aims at providing capacity building, skill enhancement and representational assistance, particularly to indigenous artists and craftspeople. ARTSMART builds local capacities, assists in identifying and utilizing sustainable means of socio-economic development and provides support in promoting and representing indigenous arts/crafts and their producers at national and international levels through workshops, events and exhibitions.
