My work as an artist is specific to discovering and interpreting connections between people through interactive visual artworks. Through participatory constructs, the work allows people a connection to the fast moving web of community. The work finds balance between social networking, sociology and formal abstraction through means of visually interpreting neighborhood specific data and connection to physical space. Through community mural work, I have connected people directly in a variety of ways: through interactive mapping, creating physical social networks, visual graphing of emotion and color and creating a collective image through collaborative efforts.
My work can be seen formally as an image or idea that focuses on abstract visual components, aside from content. When one steps closer into the work, it can be “read” and interpreted by viewers, allowing further interaction with the target community after the piece is conceived. In this functionality, the abstract image becomes something that people can walk into, creating is a system of organization where viewers can formalize the way they are connected.
