My Role
Artist, Arts Lover
My Discipline(s)
Theater, Music, Crafts, Literary Arts
About Me And My Work
I'm a sometimes writer, a former and aspiring taiko drummer; and a music lover who recently starting playing the piano again. I play a tiny bit on a lot of instruments ... guitar, ukulele, fue (a japanese side flute), accordion. I'm interested in seeing/hearing performing arts by diasporadic communities (and others). My musical taste is eclectic, and although I love to hear accomplished musicians, I also love to hear people hum as they work.
Places I Would Like To Visit
My favorite artistic experience while traveling was seeing a group in Iwate prefecture, Japan, practicing shishiodori (a very old dance/story about deer running away from people). The dancers/drummers wear deer masks and long bamboo antlers which smack the ground when they bend low during the dance. It was evening, on a mountainside, and a few neighbors came out to see them practice as well.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
Taiko and beatbox.
My Creative Influences & Favorite Artists
Too many to list - will have to come back to this one.
