Where I am is Singapore, a very urban city island, but wildlife is always there, if you choose to look for it. There are plenty of cobras, pythons and other types of reptiles such as ant eaters and crocodiles.
In Asia, there is lucrative trade in selling python hides for handbags and shoes. The scales on hides look flat, uniform and lifeless. And what a price the reptiles have to pay for being what they are.
I am an animal lover and admire the beauty of animal skins. I capture the pythons live through my interpretations on batik, depicting the pythons breathing, slithering and expanding their scales. I do the same for other animals, showing movement and some life-forms in my batik to bring out the characteristics of the animals. I enjoy flaunting the beauty of the animal skins on my batik.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
With one famous dress designer and a famous stylist to do a runway with my batik as wraparounds, shawls or headscraves, etc. Have a Wildlife theme, of course :-) Have sounds of wildlife animals throughout and the backdrop by another wildlife artist!
