It’s a long journey from Iquitos, raucous capital of the Peruvian rainforest, downriver to the isolated town of Pevas. Erratic speedboats do make the journey but for most local people and for me, the trip by riverboat is twelve hours. Pevas is tucked into a tributary of the Amazon close to the Colombian and Brazilian borders. Travellers rarely come here: why would they?
