About Me And My Work
I am an advocate of humanity who uses dance and music to explore African Diasporic identities with a particular interest in African American lived experience, folklife, foodways, adornment, body image, dress, style, swagger and the myriad expressions of these aspects.
Artistic Experiences I Have Had On My Travels
I have had several experiences traveling the world to experience the dances of cultures in Senegal, Trinidad, New Zealand, Malaysia, Haiti and Jamaica. My most recent experience was a self conducted study in Trinidad of the imprint of the Black Power Movement in Trinidad which culminated in choreography mounted on students of the University Trinidad and Tobago and a community talk-back.
Places I Would Like To Visit
I would like to study dance in East Africa, Mali, Guinea and also in Jamaica.
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
I would love to research adornment in African cultures and during African American enslavement with a particular interest in understanding African retentions in contemporary expressions of dress and adornment among African Americans.
