Drawing on the wisdom well of ancient, mystical and spiritual traditions that have merged out of the Middle East, Rahel is building bridges with beautiful and compelling songs, melodies, chants and meditations that define her intriguing folk-infusion-world and transformational music. Brilliantly fusing folk, jazz, Middle East rhythms, and further East mantras with contemporary styles, Rahel's music inspires, uplifts and profoundly moves you to a place of inner calm and spiritual joy.
Places I Would Like To Visit
I would like to be able to present my music around America, in Europe and in Israel.
In my youth I traveled around Canada & Europe. Just out of my teen year, my eyes were opened as my friend and I found ourselves following the summer theater and music festivals all around Europe. My favorite was the "Festival of Fools" in Amsterdam which, in 1976, was just in its early stages. We also loved the street festivals and performers. I think the street is one of my favorite performance venues! Following that I ended up in Israel where I lived, worked, performed and raised a family for 22 years.
The arts and culture scene in Israel is awesome and inspiring. It draws from world cultures and allows for immense creativity. There are incredible theater troupes including street theater. The music scene is fabulous and so very active. I was part of the "Anglo" folk scene for a very long time. Believe it or not I played in bluegrass and country groups and lots of folk groups. I performed all over Israel and regularly at what is now known as the "Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival" (www.jlfestival.com). I was also part of an all-woman band called, "TOFA'AH" (www.tofaah.com). We wrote, performed and recorded our own music. Today there are at least ten CD's released. I also worked regularly with children's theater troupes and then even created a few original children's shows together with other artists. I worked mostly as a musician and occasionally did some acting. Yes, all this in Israel a vibrant emerging cultural heaven!
I returned to America in 1998. I thought I needed a creative change. This has proved to be only somewhat productive. New Hampshire, where I ended up to be close to other family members, is a wonderful place if you are looking for an artists' RETREAT! It's very beautiful here and wonderfully quiet BUT not the best place if you want to actually perform and earn a living as an artist! I managed to produce a number of recordings but after 11 years here I am aching to be out performing & collaborating creatively again!
I am grateful to currently be producing and hosting a weekly radio program. I wasn't looking for this experience. It fell into my lap. I am enjoying this new "venue" very much. I hope you will take a moment to listen to some of the shows: "ISRAEL IS REAL" can be found at: www.israelisreal.weebly.com
Now that my children are grown, and one already back in Israel, I am getting ready to move back to Israel. I will look forward to a revival of an active performing career again. I am craving a more culturally diverse environment again1
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
Tikkun Meditation Concerts!
I would like to collaborate with other musicians to be able to enhance, evolve and perform my TIKKUN repertoire. I have dreams of creating a mixed media performance of TIKKUN that would include music, dance and the visual arts.
I love working with other artists. I offer my songs as a framework and starting point from which we will build on together to create a seemingly brand new work.
