Art Heals by Ruth A. Drayer

Art Heals by Ruth A. Drayer © www.ruthdrayer.com Creativity and self expression are innate to humans. The earliest healers were painters, musicians and storytellers. The work of Paleolithic artists can still be seen in the caves of Lascaux, France and Altamira, Spain, where polychrome paintings and drawings of wild animals provide evidence that artists and hunters shared in keeping their tribes nourished and healthy. Prehistoric art can be found in…See More

About Me And My Work
Author of "Nicholas & Helena Roerich, The Spiritual Journey of Two Great Artists & Peacemakers" and "Numerology, The Power in Numbers". I have an extensive background in many forms of design and color and in 1990 began painting colorful, non-objective layers of acrylic on hand-textured canvas.
Places I Would Like To Visit
As author of what has been termed the "definitive" work on the Russian artist Nicholas K. Roerich, I've spoken in several countries and met amazing people. One "life-changing" event was moving to Bangalore, India to work with his son, Svetoslav. I have been invited to Russia in August. (2010) and am looking forward to the wonderful art there.. I would love to travel back to Bali and take batik.. .
Art Forms And Cultures I Would Like To Engage With
My dream collaboration is a multi-media event with music and dance inspired by my paintings presented in a place with huge stain-glass windows like Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC or Washington (D.C.) Cathedral.
My Creative Influences & Favorite Artists
I have been greatly influenced by the Faves and other groups that began with the Impressionists. Stanton McDanaldl-Wright; Jackson Pollack; Zao Wou-Ki and other Chinese artists, Oriental caligraphy and most of all by Nicholas K. Roerich..

Nicholas & Helena Roerich, The Spiritual Journey of Two Great Artists and Peacemakers. Published by Quest Books

Nicholas & Helena Roerich, The Spiritual Journey of Two Great Artists and Peacemakers brings to light many unknown facts concerning two Russian visionaries and their connections with America. It is the true account of charismatic Nicholas Roerich, who produced over 7,000 paintings and his mystical wife, Helena, author of the deeply spiritual Agni Yoga series. Moving to New York City during the Roaring Twenties, they built a 27-story skyscraper, the Master Institute of United Arts, the first school to teach all of the arts under one roof. The innovative school attracted artists from across America including Marsden Hartley, Deems Taylor and Rockwell Kent.

Directed to create a Buddhist country around Siberia, Mongolia and the Gobi from 1924 – 28, the couple courageously crossed the remote and dangerous regions of India and Asia. They searched for ancient relics and books hidden in crypt libraries and caves throughout the Gobi, for .signs of the sacred Buddhist site, Shambhalla, for Maitreya (the Coming Buddha), whose presence would signal the New Era of Peace and for the Panchen Lama. Six years after the effort failed, President F.D. Roosevelt and the Department of Agriculture funded a second expedition so they could continue their search.

Nicholas & Helena Roerich, The Spiritual Journey of Two Great Artists & Peacemakers is the first book to interweave the Roerichs' Agni Yoga teachings with their fascinating travels. My book can be ordered through any bookstore.

The Roerich Museum is located in NYC at 319 W. 107th St. Open afternoons. Closed on Mondays. Www.roerich.org has a wonderful collection of photos and paintings.
