I'm philosophizing today friends. Maybe you've heard of the Slow Food movement and it's mission to protect heritage and traditions (as they relate to food). Nico & I have frequently discussed the basic tenants of this movement as we've developed ideas for Create Culture. So I was intrigued when I recently read about other Slow movements - particularly Slow Art & Slow Travel.
While visiting the World Institute of Slowness website I found the video above called Slow living Slow Art Andy Goldsworhty Slow Art for a Slow Revolution. I think I appreciate it so much because it recognizes the journey that exists in art work. From the moment of inspiration, to the planning, then the execution of the art is captured with a final moment of - what? Was it frustration that Andy faced (maybe momentarily in this video) or does this video represent one tiny segment in a larger art project that is his life. In that sense it's the journey that should be appreciated as much as the "final" art that results.
In the same vein, Slow Travel also stresses the importance of the journey and deemphasizes the final destination. In addition, it encourages travelers to engage with people & communities along their route. The movement can be found in psychogeography which I've discussed previously. When Nico and I spend hours scouring over workshops to add to the "Trips" section we try to take into account some of the same principles that Slow Travel holds dear.
