The following is my top 10 list of trips I would like to make this year. I've tried to be realistic, taking into account time and budget. The only thing that is certain about this list is that it will change. But for now here it is, in all its grandeur and glory.

What trips are you making this year and what will you be doing during your travels?

1. Dakar, Senegal-Wonderful things are being written about the music scene in Dakar (check out this New York Times article). This might be the big trip for the year.
2. Havana, Cuba-Or maybe this will be the big trip for the year! After visiting the country several years ago for a Caribbean music and arts festival in Santiago this wasn't initially at the top of the list. But, my father is a jazz musician (Razz'm Jazz'm) and has expressed a desire to visit the country and listen to some music. With the U.S. government allowing more trips for cultural exchanges I'm hopeful that we can arrange to get ourselves there this year.
3. New Orleans, LA-The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival takes place from April 23rd to May 2nd. Who wouldn't want to go to this city for this festival?
4. Washington, D.C.-I grew up in Arlington, VA and my parents still live there. So, I always enjoy returning home and visit several times a year. You can be sure that I will visiting from June 24th - 28th for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the Mall. Mexico and Asian Pacific Americans are the feature this year.
5. Butte, Montana-The 72nd National Folk Festival is held this summer. It's also my parents 40th wedding anniversary this year and guess where they want to have the family spend it together (hint: A resort of a different sort-home of the largest open pit copper mining lake in the U.S.).....That's right, what better way to tell your life partner you love them than at a folk festival in Butte, MT (July 9-11th).
6. Minneapolis, MN-There is a good friend who has offered a place to crash for the 2010 Minnesota State Fair. It takes place from August 26th through Sept. 6th. Will be looking forward to the fiddler contest (and the waffle cakes of course).
7. Philadelphia, PA-A trip is in the works to visit friend and genius Annie Stanfield-Hagert some time this year. Perhaps during the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe (September 3rd-.... Or maybe just to visit the largest collection of 78 records in the world which Annie's husband Tony keeps in a garage behind their town house in South Philly. It's worth the trip.
8. Baltimore, MD-One of the most innovative museums in the world is located here. A visit is in order to the American Visionary Art Museum. Maybe, for Baltimore's Almost Famous Annual East Coast National Championship Kinetic Sculpture Race.......Better yet, maybe to compete in this race.
9. Buffalo, New York-It's only a 5 hour hop, skip, and a jump from NYC. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery is supposedly worth the trip in itself.
10. NY, New York-We are based in Brooklyn, but like to take the approach that wherever you live there is something new to discover. That's why thanks to psychogeography the adventure of a lifetime awaits on 4 or 5 weekends (at the least) this year.

CHINA! (Sept 10-26, 2010): "All the World Is A Stage" so why not travel & join us on that stage? The setting: China. The "stage": a rural farm village where storytelling is alive and well. Eth-Noh-Tec is leading a cultural delegation to China- to interact with people of Gengcun Village, a 600 year old traditional storytelling village famous for their oral tradition. It will be storytelling swaps, music jam sessions, dance circles and cultural exchanges between the traditional artists of the international delegation and the Chinese artists. We welcome all kinds of traditional, global, multi-arts forms to join us in this village experience as we co-create of an Artist-to-Artist diplomacy and celebration. Oh yes... AND by the way, we also will include sightseeing such places as The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and enjoy eating "knock out savoring, mouth watering" Chinese food extravaganzas! We need artist to join us Sept 10-26, 2010. Check out our website: www.ethnohtec.org/tours for more details and how to register.

I hear you on that one. I can't imagine living in one place for too long.

I hope you plan to come to Queens more often. On my list this year are:
- Washington, DC for the Folklife Festival... with you.
- London, to visit family and hear some jazz, and the south of France for more family and stocking up on extraordinary local food.
- Hawaii, for a traditional baby luau celebration for my daughter's first birthday and a special celebration for my mum's 50th.

I dream of Brazil, to go see my video-maker friends in the Amazon and experience the spirit of carnaval in Salvador... that's for 2011... hopefully.
